The Pandemic has left thousands of people without resources, forced to live on the street every day and look for something to eat. It will soon be two years since COVID-19 was made known, and more and more, we see how entire families have to find ways to survive with dignity month after month.
For this reason, at CALVET, we feel the need, more than ever, to continue with our aid. We firmly believe that we must always positively impact society through different activities and actions of a social nature. Therefore, our Solidarity Action Department is mobilized to donate to a non-profit association year after year.
In 2021 we made a special donation to the Comprehensive Educational Association of the Raval neighborhood of Barcelona. In this way, we have had the opportunity to open new doors of hope for many young people, from 16 to 18 years old, donating full scholarships for studies, food, and transportation, so that they can build a better future. In addition, we have also been able to help cover the basic needs, food, and transportation, of 6 families of these young people who, as a result of the Pandemic, found themselves in a very delicate economic situation.
In addition, continuing with the donations that we have been making since the Pandemic broke out, we have donated 30 tons of food to the community of Sant’Egidio, which has been distributed among the most vulnerable families in the Raval neighborhood, thus helping this community. So committed to the poor and the most needy, in these moments of extreme need for so many people.
In fact, according to the words of Raquel Sancho, a collaborator of this community, “week after week, new people join the soup kitchen.” She also remarks that “80% are men, between 50 and 60 years old, that the labor market has closed its doors, 20% are women between 35 and 45 years old and, now, it is a novelty to see complete families with minor children, which they had not seen before. This gives a pattern of the current situation in the Raval”.
At Christmas, solidarity actions are more necessary than ever and, for the second consecutive year, CALVET’s Solidarity Action has collaborated with the community of Sant’egidio at lunch on December 25. This community greatly values delivering Christmas food on such an important day because the friends who participate in this party are the homeless, migrants and refugees, families in difficult situations, and the elderly alone.
The situation in the Raval is critical, and from CALVET, we try to contribute our grain of sand so that some families can recover little by little.
“At CALVET, we allocate part of our profits to social actions because we believe that solidarity is the basis for creating a better future for all. We also encourage companies and everyone who can join us with aid to non-profit associations in your area, since, at this time, help is more necessary than ever,” Mr. Lluís Calvet.
This 2022 we will continue with more enthusiasm and desire to help than ever.
